Brown & Robust Porter brewed by Wisconsin Brewing in Verona, WI
In all his 25 years of brewing alchemy, Wisconsin Brewing brewmaster, Kirby
Nelson had never tried to create a Porter. In his mind, it was about time.
And after tasting #003, you’ll wonder what in the world he was waiting for.
“A trio of Caramel, Special Roast and Deep Chocolate malts get this Porter
party started, then Wisconsin-grown Brewer’s Gold Hops adds a bit of
bittering to keep everything under control. This brew is bold and assertive.
And I’ll be bold and assertive and say you’re gonna’ love it.” - Kirby
Brown & Robust Porter is great with good, hearty comfort food. Soups and stews,
steaks and potatoes, smoked meats (especially bacon), anything with gravy on it.
Pairs well with Brie, Gloucester, Gouda and Gruyère. For dessert, try it with
Wisconsin Brewing Philosophy
At WBC, we’ve had a love affair with craft beer for over 30 years. And it’s
never been stronger. Our guiding philosophy? Create beers that honor the rich
brewing heritage of Wisconsin, while embracing that same pioneering spirit to
move us forward.
And how do we define forward? By getting back to craft brewing’s roots: Making
beer that people want to drink.
Sure, it sounds obvious. But at a time when many craft beers are pushing the
envelope to extremes, people kept telling us they wanted something different:
Flavor without the drama. We think embracing the basic philosophy that craft
beer should be enjoyable to drink is a worthy idea. An exciting idea. A good (as
in exceptionally good-tasting) idea.
So while you’ll always find a variety of diverse and distinctive styles of WBC
craft beers, they’ll all have certain characteristics in common: They’ll always
be well-balanced, pleasant, flavorful, fun to drink.
But don’t take our word for it — give them a try. You’ll taste the
craftsmanship, the dedication, the passion we put into every one of our beers.
And it’ll taste good.
The Founders of Wisconsin Brewing
When brothers Carl and Mark Nolen and brewmaster Kirby Nelson set out to build a
brewery, they brought over half a century of brewing expertise, a passion for
creating outstanding craft beers, and a guiding philosophy that could only be
called pioneering — even in a brewing category known for pioneers.
They would honor the rich legacy of Wisconsin brewers with their creations. They
would create a dynamic and diverse family of highest quality craft beers.
And well-balanced would be their watchword. These wouldn’t be brews designed to
shock, or test, or appeal to the smallest segments of beer drinkers. These craft
beers would be true to their roots, true to the spirit of their styles — but
they would also be really good. Fun. Easy-going. Enjoyable.
These beer pioneers would apply craftsmanship and creativity that everyone would
appreciate, to make beers that everyone — from grizzled craft beer veterans to
curious newcomers to the brewers who made it — would love to drink. Kirby
wouldn’t have it any other way.
