Ubu Ale Brewed by the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery

Ubu Ale Brewed by the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery in Lake Placid, New York

The mountain village of Lake Placid was once home to a legendary chocolate lab named Ubu, the biggest dog you've ever seen with an uncanny nose for great beer. Deep garnet red in color, this English-Style Ale is a tribute to the legend of Ubu. It features a smooth, rich maltiness complemented by just the right amount of hops. Here's to the legend! UBU Ale is a English Strong Ale brewed with Cluster and Willamette hops. The malt barley consist of 2 Row, Crystal and Chocolate Malt. ABV: 6.5%. IBUs: 38.

Beer Review by Beer Advocate
Appearance: Poured out a chocolaty brown; not completely black. Nice 1/2" head that faded away into pleasant white swirls.

Smell: Nice bouquet of chocolate, toasted grains. Aroma is somewhat flat, but does not detract from the enjoyment of the beer at all.

Taste: Sweet up front, with slight hints of chocolate. Middle features a lot of subdued barley and slight hints of hops. Finish is more of that sweetness and toasted grains, along with still more chocolaty goodness. Aftertaste is creamy and smoky; very, very enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation was right on the nose for this style and certainly adds to the enjoyment of the beer.

Overall: Very good to excellent strong ale. This is somewhere between a porter and a stout. Very enjoyable. If you are a fan of unique beers that are actually enjoyable, this is the brew for you. If you find it, buy it.

The Short Story of Lake Placid Brewpub

It began, like many microbreweries, with a homebrew kit and a love of beer. Not just a love of drinking beer but a real respect for the craft, the history, the art, and the industry, as well as a passion for the brewing process itself. Today, the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery has been brewing award-winning ales and lagers for more than 16 years and has expanded rapidly due to its popularity and quality, earning the respect of the brewing community and national media attention. Over the years we have brewed almost 80 different styles of beer and we brew almost 300,000 pints of beer annually, placing us in the top 7% of brewpubs nationwide.
