Brewpub
The South Street Brewery was founded in 1998, and is housed in the renovated H.
H. Hankins Hay and Grain warehouse built in the late 1800’s. Old brick walls,
hardwood floors and thick timber pillars provide a striking setting for our
custom built brewhouse and a spacious, welcoming atmosphere in which to enjoy
our fresh, handcrafted ales and lagers as well as our seasonal fare.
The brewpub's commitment to on-premises brewing ensures that only the highest
quality ingredients are used and that the beer is always fresh. This commitment
has earned us regional and international praise but more importantly, results in
a wide selection of styles and new, creative recipes that we hope will
continually have our customers discovering new favorites.
South Street's menu also reflects our dedication to originality and fresh
ingredients ane offers a seasonal menu as well as nightly specials, including an
eclectic sampling of Contemporary American, Asian-Pacific, Continental, Creole,
Caribbean and regional Southern dishes.
The cuisine and libations are all served in a friendly, relaxed manner that
challenges the idea that excellence necessitates pretense. We hope you enjoy
your visit to South Street and that you return soon.
The Beers
Satan’s Pony Amber Ale: The most distinguishing characteristic of this amber ale
is the perfect balance of hop, malt, and roasted flavors. Deceptively smooth,
Satan’s Pony is our most popular selection.
J P Ale: Our award winning American-style pale ale. Tons of Cascade hops give it
moderate bitterness with great aroma and fresh hop flavor. A staff favorite..
Absolution Ale: This mahogany colored, full-bodied brew is modeled after a 17th
century English old ale. Rich malt flavor dominates the palate. At 6.1% ABV this
ale may not absolve your sins, but it will help you forget them.
Sahti - Experience one of the oldest styles of beer in the world. Sahti—”the
juice of barley”—is a pale, exotic brew of Finnish and Estonian origin. Its
roots are traced to at least 900 A.D., though it is believed to be over one
thousand years older. Adhering to tradition, the mash of barley, rye and oats
was run over juniper boughs. Juniper berries take the place of hops in this
eclectic beer and give it a faint spruce and gin-like flavor.
Chocolate Espresso Porter: We have partnered up with Shenandoah Joes’ to create
this special brew for the holiday season. Valrhona cocoa nibs and Shenandoah
Joes’ espresso impart a delicate but distinctive flavors to this decadent brew.
Served on nitrogen to give a rich creamy head.
Anastasia‘s Chocolate Fantasy: This year’s version of our imperial stout was
brewed just after our India Ink Black IPA ran out. All Simcoe hops were used,
and the added character was no doubt a result of our desires for more IPA. This
beer weighs in at a beautifully balanced 8.8% ABV Served in a 10 1/2 oz. goblet.
Woodchuck Amber Cider: Get your apple a day...fermented. This popular cider from
Vermont is highly drinkable, with a sweet and not too tart finish.
