FOTO India Pale Ale Brewed by Lucid Brewing in Minnetonka, Minnesota

Lucid Brewing's FOTO IPA has late hops, dry hops and then even more hop. A whopping 4# per keg are used to give this West Coast IPA an explosion of powerful citrus aromas and flavors. The late hopping process in FOTO IPA allows Lucid to present the full flavor and aroma of carefully selected hops while perfecting great balance between citrus and bitter, creating a perfect FOTO finish.

Beer Review from Beer Advocate
Appearance: Pours a fairly hazy copper amber orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Solid two fingers of off white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: A sharp and juicy hop forward aroma with nice bitter hints of citrus and earthy hops. Bold and ripe upfront scent of hops with floral, earthy, and grassy hints. Scent of dank pine resin. Citrus fruit hints of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, tangerine, apricot, pineapple, and lemon zest. Background presence of pale malt with hints of grains, cracker, caramel, and yeast. Slight hints of honey like sweetness. Very hop forward. A pretty solid aroma.

Taste: As good as the aroma hints at, a ripe and juicy hop forward taste with big notes of citrus and earthy grass. Floral and herbal hop notes with a spicy taste of pine resin. Grassy hop notes. Big juicy citrus presence with notes of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, apricot, pineapple, tangerine, and lemon. Subtle bready pale malt backing with some notes of cracker, grains, sweet caramel, and yeast. The hops dominate with a nice bitterness. A very good juicy taste.

Mouthfeel: Body is on the higher end of medium. Carbonation is moderate. Very juicy and oily. Bitter and drying. Alcohol is masked fairly well by the big hops.

Overall: A pretty solid imperial IPA. Good in your face earthy and citrus hops.

The Story of Lucid Brewing Company
Lucid Brewing was founded on the principles of CLARITY IN THINKING by Jon Messier and Eric Biermann. The two hard-core homebrewing craft beer aficionados, were working the 8-5 sitting behind their corporate desks dreaming of being anywhere else. The day to day cycle was never ending, and was taking away all their time to brew beer.
Wake up at 5AM, get the kids up, cleaned, fed and ready for school. Drive cross town through traffic and punch in. Sleep through one of the six meetings to plan meetings. Donuts and Coffee. Too few resources and personnel to complete the project properly. Work late to meet a deadline. Go home through traffic. Get kids. Cook dinner. Put them to bed. DRINK A BEER. Repeat 5 days a week and sometimes Saturdays.

Clarity came in the precious few moments with their beautiful spouses late in the evening where they could step outside the work cycle and relax with a finely crafted brew. In one of these lucid moments it became very clear that a permanent break from the cycle was in order! Their wise, beautiful, witty, charming, stylish, and well manicured wives were supportive of the idea.

In June of 2011, after over a year of planning and designing Jon and Eric quit their jobs to build the Lucid Brewery. It was a lot of work! But they got a ton of help from friends and family, and a successful KickStarter Campaign.

Lucid brewed itís first mainstay beer during those hot days of trench digging. Lucid AIR Enlightened Ale was brewed to quench the thirst of the guys putting the place together. It was a hot summer and they needed a beer that was refreshing and light. With itís slight citrus aroma and flavor, lower ABV and crisp dry finish, AIR quickly became a favorite!

By October the brewery was complete and cooking! The first deliveries kegs were made the week of Thanksgiving. What started with 3 customers has grown to a few hundred! Jonís car was the first delivery vehicle and now Lucid Beer is carried by refrigerated trucks from Duluth to Mankato, Fargo to Stillwater and everywhere in between!
