Fire in the Hole Irish Red Ale brewed by Beer Army Combat Brewery

Fire in the Hole Irish Red Ale brewed by Beer Army Combat Brewery in New Bern, North Carolina

Fire in the Hole Irish Red Ale is an easy drinking Irish style red ale that is malt focused with a roasted dry finish. It features a bright blood-red color with aromatic hints of caramel and toffee with the flavor being the same, finishing with a medium body, clear appearance and an off-white colored head. This beer pairs well with a wide range of food like chicken, seafood and burgers but pairs especially well with spicy cuisine. This is a great gateway beer to indoctrinate main stream beer consumers to something more artisanal. ABV: 5%

Beer Review by Beer Advocate
Appearance: A very nice caramel color with just a hint of an orange tint. A fairly bright white head which fades quickly. Little to no lacing.

Aroma: A heavy scent of caramel compliments the color. A hint of yeast is apparent, but there is very little to no scent of hops. Still subdued and earthy though; not overly sweet smelling.

Taste: Very pleasant taste.... once again caramel is the foremost taste with an oaky aftertaste through which hints of caramel are still apparent.

Mouthfeel: Initially hits the tongue as a lighter brew, but becomes moderately denser the longer it warms in the mouth. Pleasantly surprising finish without being overly heavy for the style and ABV.

Overall: A rather enjoyable brew, with a consistent caramel theme throughout. Recommended if the opportunity to sample it arises.
