Donner Party Porter brewed by Fiftyfifty Brewing in Truckee, CA

Donner Party Porter brewed by Fiftyfifty Brewing in Truckee, California

Donner Party Porter is a ‘Colonial America’ Porter. This robust brew has a moderate to heavy mouth feel, very deep brown in color, and imminently drinkable. Featured in the brew are hand toasted oat flakes and molasses. Made to be a formidable beer to ward off winter’s chill. The flavor is a complex array of dark chocolate, espresso, and dark dried fruit. Your friends never tasted so good!

Donner Party Porter Ingredients
Malts: Rahr 2row, Crisp Marris Otter, Rahr Red Wheat Malt, Gambrinus Munich Light, Dark and Honey Malt, Castle Special B, Simpsons 50-60, Crisp Pale Chocolate, Simpsons Chocolate, Roasted Barley, Castle Biscuit Malt
Adjuncts: Toasted Oat Flakes, Molasses, Exotic Sugars
Hops: German Perle and Mt. Hood

Beer Review from Beer Advocate
Pours a dark blacked out color with a thick froth of softly tanned head resting on top. Evens out, leaving some patchy lacing and a collar of film on the brew.

Pleasant mix of roasted coffee beans, semi-sweet chocolate and dark malts in the nose. Each sniff becomes more intoxicating, as the layers of malts start to reveal themselves.

Full and robust right up front with nice roasted malt flavors. Layers of caramel and bread crust are coupled with a dark roasted coffee flavor which is right on point for coffee drinkers like myself. A touch of sweetness from chocolate and malts, finished off with some dry oats and coffee on the back end.

Fuller medium body, nice carbonation, creamy and slick on the tongue. I don't often find myself raving about porters, but this one stood out amongst an already impressive lineup of 5050 beers.
