About the Beer
Old Man Winter was a British Style Old Ale, brewed with winter in mind, that weighed in at almost 8% and made with over 555 pounds of malted barley. Old Ales were typically brewed for the winter months, to warm the drinkers against the cold and damp British winters. Cape Cod Beer’s “Old Man Winter” was made in that tradition. A ruby chestnut color, with light carbonation this beer is frequently enjoyed in a brandy snifter or stemmed glass instead of the traditional pint glass.
While only 6 ˝ barrels (200 Gallons) of the Old Man Winter brew was produced, 50 gallons of that was set aside in a spent American-made oak bourbon barrel for aging. This barrel had previously been used to age a famous Tennessee bourbon, and had been charred on the inside, as is traditional in Bourbon aging.
The result is a complex beer that warms and satisfies, with hints of toffee and dried fruit from the malt and the yeast; a subtle essence of vanilla and oak from the barrel aging, and a punch from the residual bourbon. Its best enjoyed at around 55 degrees where you can explore all the flavors that it holds.
If you don't want to order online - please don't wait long before coming by the brewery..with only 200 bottles available it won't last long.
Cheers,
