Sam Adams hopes to decide before summer on whether to open a brewery in Freetown(May 25) - Boston - Company officials, including president and CEO Martin Roper, met with selectmen this week explaining that they were seeking grants to pay for water and sewer lines upgrades on the property where a plant would be located.Mr. Roper was optimistic and presented a posterboard-size picture of the 250,000-square-foot "Freetown Brewery."

Bar Ticketed For Serving Beer Out Of The Wrong Tap(May 24) - Wisconsin -  Port Washington bar has been slapped with a ticket for selling beer out of the wrong tap. The American Legion Bar usually sells Miller, but had some Coors Light left over from a wedding reception they'd recently hosted.

Dogfish Head Brewery Get National Attention(May 24) - Delaware -  Dogfish Head Brewery is featured on the Travel Channel this week.The segement is part of the show, "Taste of America." It airs next Saturday at 2 pm.

For malty golden treat, try Mendocino wheat(May 23) - California - IN 1983, I listened to the World Series all the way up U.S. 101 on my way to a brewpub -- the first in California since Prohibition. While I'm a big baseball fan, I can't remember who was playing. What I do remember, like it was yesterday, is the old tin ceiling at Mendocino Brewing Co. in Hopland and my first sip of Red Tail Ale.

Former Rolling Rock brewery in western Pa. now making Sam Adams(May 22) - Pennsylvania - Boston Beer Co. signed a deal in April to brew Samuel Adams beer at the former Rolling Rock brewery in Latrobe. City Brewing Co., of La Crosse, Wis., bought the facility last year after its former owner sold the Rolling Rock brand to Anheuser-Busch for $82 million.

Featured Beer of the Week 

Copperstown Brewing's  "Old Slugger" Pale Ale - Website
"Old Slugger" is a hearty Pale Ale, copper in color, crisp malty fullness on the front of the palate and lingering hop bitterness on the back with a dry finish. It is brewed with four barley malts, including two-row English pale and crystal malts, balanced with Mt. Hood, Cascade and Fuggle hops, and fermented in open vessels by Ringwood Yeast, a true top-fermenting ale yeast. "Old Slugger" is the flagship beer of the Cooperstown Brewing Company and was first brewed in July 1995 and bottled in November 1995.

Original Gravity 1.054 / Final Gravity 1.012 / 5.5% abv.s
