Baerlic Brewing Co. Making a Name for Themselves

Baerlic Brewing Company by Austin Foster, Craft Beer Promoter

If you live in Portland and haven’t been to Baerlic Brewing Co. stop reading this and go there immediately. The inner Southeast brewery just took home the Oregon Small Brewery of the Year award at the Oregon Beer Awards, along with three other medals.

Founded in 2014 by high school friends Ben Parson and Rik Hall, Baerlic Brewing was their way of bringing the perfect pint of beer, to beer enthusiasts. The pair started home brewing together in 2004 and ten years later opened the doors to their very own brewery.

When you walk into the brewery you are greeted with a classic feel that is immediately welcoming and not too pretentious. There is a gorgeous wooden bar, and the tap list is featured with chalk on pieces of wood hanging on the wall. The pair demoed, designed and constructed most of the brewery themselves, including pouring concrete, framing walls and hanging drywall.

To keep up with the hyper-competitive craft brewing industry they are brewing well-balanced beers. Ben explained it as, “building beers that you can have in any order.” You can feel the calculated thoughts, energy and love that went into this brewery in every single detail. They have made a name for themselves in the craft brewing industry in a large part due to the consistency of their beers. Rik and Ben have their hands in every step of the process from “grain to glass, from conception to glass” says Rik.

They are doing a phenomenal job of marketing their small brewery by staying relevant. Most brewers are hyper-focused and they are trying to be the opposite of that. They want to create great beers for all types of beer drinkers.

In celebration of their 3rd Anniversary in June, they created the New Noise IPA. This beer is perfect for any kind of beer drinker. Packed full of tropical and citrus notes it’s great for drinking all year-round. Make sure you get to Baerlic, grab a pint and take time to enjoy this well-balanced beer. Your mouth will thank you.
