Yuengling Porter

Yuengling
Dark Brewed Porter is an original specialty beer that has been
brewed expressly for tavern owners and family trade since 1829. An
authentic craft-style beer, our Porter calls for a generous portion
of caramel and dark roasted malts, which deliver a rich full-bodied
flavor and creamy taste with slight tones of chocolate evident in
every sip. It pours dark, with a thick foamy head, and imparts a
faint malty aroma that is enjoyed by even the most discerning
consumer.
Beer Review from Beer Advocate:
Had two while out with the wife at Youell's Oyster House, Allentown,
PA. I had oysters and crab cakes, which I think was a fantastic
pairing with this dark eastern pa classic.
Pour - Quick effervescent pour with average lacing. Color is a deep
brownish-red that in poor light gives off the appearance of a
black-hole. Opaque with minimal clouding. Head is somewhere between
bone and a pale walnut color. Two fingers that sits for a second
before almost completely disappearing.
Nose - A nice mix of mineral and malts. A detect very little hops on
the head, but overall a very sweet smelling beer.
Taste - Caramel malts and cola nuts open up the front end. A good
balance of sweetness, smokiness and bitterness with little or no
alcohol on the tongue. Gives off a dull tang on the backend that I
think is consistent with Yuengling as I get it with the Lager as
well.
Mouthfeel - completely different than what I'm used to in a porter.
Crisp clean medium body that feels like it could be a Kolsch or a
Pils, if not for the taste. Surprisingly good carb for a less than
impressive appearance.
Drinkability - I could drink this beer until there is no more. A
really traditional, bread-and-butter beer from a fantastic, small
town brewery. One of my favorite interpretations of the porter
style.
D.G. Yuengling & Son
D. G. Yuengling & Son is the oldest operating brewing company in the
United States, established in 1829. It is one of the largest
breweries by volume in the country, and is the largest
American-owned brewery. Its headquarters are in Pottsville,
Pennsylvania. Yuengling produces about 2.5 million barrels
annually, which as of 2011, placed it first among American
commercial breweries. Besides its two Pennsylvania facilities,
Yuengling also operates a brewery in Tampa, Florida. Yuengling is
pronounced ying-ling, and is an Anglicized version of Jüngling, the
German term for "young man". The family-owned brewery has
traditionally changed ownership through the purchase of the company
by the offspring of the previous owner. Due to the popularity of
Yuengling Traditional Lager in Pennsylvania, it can be ordered by
simply asking for a lager, especially in eastern parts of the state.
