B3K Black Lager brewed by the Wynkoop Brewing Company - Denver, CO

B3K Black Lager brewed by the Wynkoop Brewing Company - Denver, Colorado
Wynkoop Brewing
Company is now releasing its third canned beer, B3K Black Lager. A luxurious
German-style schwarzbier, the beer has won two recent medals at the Great
American Beer Festival. In 2008 it won a gold medal in the German-Style
Schwarzbier bracket. In last year’s GABF it won a 2011 bronze medal in the
Kellerbier/Zwickelbier category.

A richly flavored but thirst-quenching version of dark beer, B3K is an
unfiltered small-batch wonder with a creamy body, chocolate and coffee
aromas, and a hint of smoke. It is an immensely quaffable beer of just 5.5%
ABV.
“B3K has been a staff favorite for years,” notes Wynkoop “Beer Pedaler”
Clarke Boyer, “and has a cult following at Wynkoop and our other places.
That following and its two GABF medals made it the obvious choice for our
third canned beer.”
B3K is built with German base malts, Caramunich malt, debittered black malt,
beechwood-smoked malt (from Bamberg, Germany) and a blend of noble hops and
is aged for five weeks. “It requires nearly three times as much tank time as
our canned ales,” says head brewer Andy Brown. “But it's worth it when you
taste how smooth B3K is for a dark beer. And our new expansion of the
brewery gave us the capacity to start putting it in cans.”
The beer pairs exceptionally well with an array of gourmet foods, from
grilled and smoked meats to chocolate desserts.
Beer Review from Beer Advocate
Appearance - This beer has a dark black body with a medium sized creamy tan
head. The body is to dense to see any sign of carbonation.
Aromoa - This beer has a soft smooth roasted black malt note with a hint of
cream. There are graham notes that increase as the beer warms.
Taste - This beer has as smooth roasted malt flavor with hints of coffee
malt and chocolate malt notes. There is a soft dry pine note to the finish
with a light chalk flavor in the finish. As the beer warms there are some
notes of cream in the malt.
Mouthfeel - This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with a dry finish.
Overall- This beer has nice big malt flavors with some fruity ale qualities
but it still has a very smooth quality to it. Nice session beer.

Wynkoop Brewing Company
Colorado’s first brewpub, Wynkoop Brewing Company was founded in 1988 by a
group of young entrepreneurs and urban pioneers led by current current
Colorado governor John Hickenlooper.
Our brewpub’s hallmarks -- highly acclaimed small-batch beers, high quality
food & service, the city’s best pool hall and our glorious 1888 building --
helped make us a major catalyst for the revival of Lower Downtown Denver.
Today, Wynkoop Brewing Company is a beer-blessed Denver institution, a
must-visit Colorado landmark and one of the nation’s most revered craft
breweries.
As it turns out, demand is still greater than the supply, but they prefer to
grow their business organically while focusing on efficiencies and quality. For
now, it is easier to make better beer than it is to make more beer!
