Widmer Hefeweizen brewed by Widmer Brothers Brewing -
Meet the beer
that started it all. Widmer's naturally cloudy flagship brew starts with the
highest quality wheat. It's bold, clean flavor and pronuounced citrus and
floral aromas are what define an American-style hefeweizen. So, pour
yourself a cool, clouly glass, finish with a lemon and enjoy America's
Original Hefeweizen. ABV: 4.9%. IBU's: 30. Malts: Pale, Munich, Wheat,
Caramel 40L. Hops: Alchemy, Willamette, Cascade
Beer Review by Beer Advocate:
Appearance: Cloudy orange gold with a clinging bubbly white lace.
Smell: Fruity with mild citrus, hints of malted wheat and a touch of yeast.
Taste: Very smooth (almost creamy) and medium bodied, mildly crisp up front with
a light bite of grain and yeast. Then comes some fruit, malted wheat,
bread/biscuit and a flavourful hop bitterness (citrusy). Faint rustic
under-tones appear from the flavour of the yeast and linger with some grain and
a soft spicy flavour.
Notes: A simply amazing brew ... brewed with an Altbier yeast strain and hopped
with Tettnanger and Cascade hops to make for an unequaled brew amongst the many
American wheat beers. This was proven at The Great American Beer Fest by being
awarded a gold in the American wheat category. Top pick for American wheat
Widmer Brothers Brewing
What started as a dream for two ordinary brothers who just loved beer has now
become a reality for two ordinary brothers who still just love beer. Kurt and
Rob Widmer helped lead the Pacific Northwest craft beer movement in 1984 when,
in their 20s, they dreamed of brewing unique interpretations of traditional beer
styles. In 1986, Widmer Brothers Brewing introduced the first American-style
Hefeweizen; today, the unfiltered cloudy beer is the company’s signature brew
and one of the best-selling wheat beers in the country. Based in Portland, Ore.,
the brewery currently brews a variety of beers including Drifter Pale Ale,
Nelson Imperial IPA, Rotator IPA Series, Drop Top Amber Ale and Pitch Black IPA.
