Upheaval IPA brewed by Widmer Brothers Brewing in Portland, Oregon

Upheaval IPA  brewed by Widmer Brothers Brewing in Portland, Oregon

Upheaval IPA is the result of our brewers' relentless pursuit of the perfect IPA. With more than 2 pounds of hops per barrel, upheaval IPA unleashes a huge hop flavor and aroma with serious bitterness and balanced finish. Brewed with wheat, the result is a hazy, bold ipa that's unfiltered. Malts: 2-row pale, wheat, caramel. Hops: Alchemy, Simcoe, Chinook, Willamette, Brewer's Gold, and Nelson Sauvin. IBU's 85. ABV: 7.0%.

Beer Review by Beer Advocate:
Appearance: Pours a very hazy orange, clearly unfiltered, half finger of white head with spotty lacing

Aroma: Smell is orange, tangerine, grapefruit, grassy hop, pine and spruce, a herbal tea like character, no malt to speak of

Taste: Taste is great, heavy pine, grapefruit, huge pop of bitterness in the front and middle, sweet caramel malt underneath, orange rind, a definite white wine character I assume from the Nelson hops they are using in this, lemon, finishes with a sharp bitterness

Mouthfeel: Mouthfeel is medium with heavy fine carbonation, very dry on the finish

Overall: Well I was not expecting this beer to be this great, I am in love with this bitter hop bomb. Great flavor, huge bitterness, nice dryness and a nice sweet backing to keep the hops in check! The best IPA I have had in some time.

Widmer Brothers Brewing
What started as a dream for two ordinary brothers who just loved beer has now become a reality for two ordinary brothers who still just love beer. Kurt and Rob Widmer helped lead the Pacific Northwest craft beer movement in 1984 when, in their 20s, they dreamed of brewing unique interpretations of traditional beer styles. In 1986, Widmer Brothers Brewing introduced the first American-style Hefeweizen; today, the unfiltered cloudy beer is the company’s signature brew and one of the best-selling wheat beers in the country. Based in Portland, Ore., the brewery currently brews a variety of beers including Drifter Pale Ale, Nelson Imperial IPA, Rotator IPA Series, Drop Top Amber Ale and Pitch Black IPA.
