Up The Creek Extreme IPA brewed by Thomas Creek Brewery - Greenville, South
Carolina
Up the Creek Extreme IPA is mashed at low temperature to increase the amount
of fermentable sugars while reducing residual sweetness. This process
creates a hoppy behemoth of a beer with its alcohol well hidden. Up the
Creek is designed to be dangerously drinkable, so use caution or you will
find yourself UP THE CREEK! Malts: 2-Row Pale, Caramel 20, Special B,
Caramel 120. Hops: Warrior, Nugget, Amarillo, Willamette. ABV 12.5%. IBU
111.

Appearance: Pours an amber brown with a scant eighth inch of head on it. A fair
amount of carbonation is visible. I've never seen an IPA this color. Very
interesting.
Aroma: Smells malty and sweet, with a slight resinous hop character to it. A
little muted in the smell department honestly.
Taste: Has a slightly dark, amber malt taste, a little sweetness, with a fair
bit of hop bitterness on the finish. Some caramel hints. More like a barleywine,
like some other people mentioned. The bottle says 12.5% ABV but the booze is not
really detectable at all. Very nice. This one could be dangerous.
Mouthfeel: Has a thicker, solid feel in the mouth. You definitely know you're
drinking something with some backbone in this one.
Overall: Very interesting beer, haven't had an IPA like this one before. I A
pretty smooth brew, I could see drinking a few of these in a sitting, before I
fell off my chair, that is.
