Whiplash: What happens when a 500-year-old Belgian style ale gets rear-ended by a truckload of American hops? It gives ya one heck of an ambulance-chasing brew. Whiplash is SweetWater’s dry hopped version of a pale Belgian ale. This white IPA gives off subtle notes from the Belgian yeast complimented by a citrus and piney hop finish.

Well balanced at 6.2% ABV and 55 IBUs, Whiplash is brewed with a variety of grains including a heavy dose of wheat and caramel malts; hopped with Bravo, Ahtanum, Centennial and Cascade; and dry hopped with Ahtanum, Centennial and Simcoe. This brew will have drinkers turning heads (slowly), but will only stick around until February.

SweetWater Whiplash White IPA by Beer Advocate
This is one Heck of a hybrid ale. Wit grain bill, strong ale yeast, American IPA hopping. Sizeable head, good lace, wispy covering. Cloudy orange gold. Nose is lively with wheat twang, light pils breadiness, tropical fruit hops. Taste is an amalgam and it works out beautifully. Light malty body that seems to be overwhelmed by the huge hop content but the yeast and mellower hop artifacts bring a balance to the finish that makes this highly quaffable and refreshing. Feel is smooth with a mild carbonation that brings a gentle dubbing of the mouth. I like this stuff. It's hard to define out pigeonhole bit it's good.
