Osiris Pale Ale brewed by Sun King Brewery - Indianapolis, Indiana   

Osiris Pale Ale is an assertive American Pale and is not meant for the timid. Crafted by our Brewers for our Brewers, Osiris blends three choice varieties of American hops to create a spicy, citrus hop punch that is sure to satisfy any hop head. Every batch of Osiris is dry-hopped towards the end of fermentation for maximum hop flavor, aroma and character.

The appearance is one of the best aspects of this brew. The head is bright white, but only a finger thick and quickly recedes to a thin even layer. There is heavy lacing left on the sides of the glass. The color is a clear orange amber. I can see several columns of bubbles rising to the top.

The smell is two-dimensional, which is what I would expect from a good pale ale. This brew strikes an excellent balance between hop and malt aromas. The hop aroma is definitely on the citrus end of the spectrum and reminds me of orange and lemon zest. The malt aroma is like caramel and lightly roasted malts.

The taste begins with orange and grapefruit like citrus. There are some toasted bread flavors in the middle which are overcome by bitterness. The bitterness does not linger strong, because the finish is has a nice balance between the malt backbone and hop bitterness. The aftertaste is great and remains balanced. It tempts you into drinking more.

The feel is light to medium and very little carbonation is detected. There is a very light presence of oil that coats the mouth. Although this might be the fatty lunch I just had.

This is one of my favorite pale ales out there. The balance in the nose and flavor is my idea of excellent execution. At the stated ABV I wouldn't call this a session brew, but it's very difficult to have only one. I'm glad to have relatives in Indy, so I can always have a chance to visit Sun King.
