Silent Night brewed by Mother Earth Brewing - Kinston, North Carolina
Invite friends, stoke the fire, and uncork a bottle of indulgence. Silent
Night offers a coffee aroma and the taste of an exceptionally rich malty
flavor. Robust yet smooth and black as coal, each sip is a delightful gift.
Old man winter gave you just what you were hoping for. Silent Night is a
Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Our Head Brewer says, "Embellished with
a hint of coffee and a touch of molasses, you’ll enjoy a bold, yet
delightfully smooth brew. I pronounce this Barrel Aged Imperial Stout a
sipper."
Beer Review by Beer Advocate:
The ale throws down a black liquid with tiny tan bubbles that seem to want to
take their time on their ride to the top of the glass. Head retention is a
non-issue here, each sip leaves a thin ring of lacing. Hint of boozy fusel
barrel juice, vanilla, charred wood, roasted grain and a blackberry brandy
fruitiness. Big brawny body with enough smoothness to break up that thick creamy
body a bit and a cushy body that is as it settles down on the palate. The flavor
lands sweet but with a charred slightly smoky backing, burnt sugar comes to mind
as well. Hops take second seat. Faint bourbon note though there is a definite
pull on the palate from the wood. Very balanced and almost too drinkable for its
size. 9% is pretty mellow. Finishes with that dry pull from the bourbon barrel.
Hard to balance near perfection like this in a bigger beer. Very well done.
Mother Earth Brewing
A name like Mother Earth Brewing demands that a ribbon of green run through
every aspect of our company. Owners Stephen Hill and Trent Mooring say it was
easy to build a first-rate brewery while staying true to their name. Mooring
explains, "Being green can be easy, and making simple, educated product
decisions during our design phase was critical to our overall objective of a
low-impact brewery." He adds that "research and education will continue to be
key elements" in deciding what green technologies to implement in the future.
