2013 Schell Snowstorm Brewed in New Ulm, MN

2013 Schell Snowstorm Ale

Much like snowflakes, no two Snowstorm beers are alike. Once a year, our brewmasters lock themselves in the testing room with a secret selection of fine malts and hops, only emerging when they've hit upon something truly extraordinary. Some of our past Snowstorm recipes, like Firebrick, proved so popular, we started brewing them year-round. Look for a special new batch of Snowstorm every season, available in November, December, and January or while supplies last. 2012 Snowstorm Beer Style: Belgian Style Golden Ale.  Alcohol by Volume: 7.0%

Flavor/Color Profile:
Chamomile and coriander add soothing herbal notes to this year's Snowstorm recipe. It is smooth and light in color, with a floral maltiness and warm rich spiciness.

Beer Review from Beer Advocate:
Appearance - Poured into a goblet, this brew unlike its Belgian brethern is completely clear. Light golden with a finger of white head that breaks down into a thin layer.

Aroma - Belgiany-lots of estery goodness with a clean malt aroma with coriander noticeable. Smells great.

Tast - The Belgian character is mostly fruity banana/bitter orange esters, some spicy phenolic character but the estery character is stronger. Plenty of malt to carry the flavors of barley malt with the essence of coriander. Has a nice floral quality as well-I guess that must be the chamomile.

Mouthfeel - Super clean and crisp for a Belgian. Highly carbonated with a light body and a soft mouthfeel but impressively no alcohol bite. Damn easy to drink.

Overall - This is a pretty solid Belgian-esque brew. Nice flavors, clean taste and super high drinkability. This with a super affordable $11 for a 12 pack equals a beer I'll be drinking a lot of over the next couple months.
