Saranac Pale Ale Brewed by the Saranac Brewing in Utica, NY

Saranac Pale Ale Brewed by the Saranac Brewing Company in Utica, New York

Saranac Pale Ale is Saranac's flagship beer. This ale is a classic English Pale Ale made with six specialty malts and Cascade and East Kent Golding hops. It weighs in at 5.5% ABV and has a 13.50 original gravity. A coppery amber colored beer, it pours with a full, rich head. The initial aroma is toward the hoppy end of the spectrum. The flavor starts out with a nutty maltiness and finishes with nice hop bite. Saranac Pale Ale was also the Gold Medal for English Pale Ales in the 2013 U.S. Open Beer Championship.

Review from Beer Advocate
Appearance - Pours a nice darkened golden-yellow. Not much of a head, but some foam stuck around. Fair amount of carbonation noticeable. Slight lacing on the glass.

Aroma - Malt and hops up front. A unique fruity aroma present afterwards. Not a whole lot going on.

Taste - Has been several years since I've sampled this brew, and it's so much better than I remember. Small amount of malt, and a more pronounced amount of hops noticeable. Noticed the same fruity taste as mentioned from the aroma. A blend of grapefruit, lemon and bitter orange. Don't taste any of them singularly, but that's the best way I can describe it, as those 3 combined.

Mouthfeel - Oustanding mouthfeel. Incredibly refreshing and smooth. A perfect amount of carbonation to quench your fizz thirst. No sourness, bad aftertaste or stomach bloat. Almost perfect.

Overall - An outstanding beer, could be one of the few beers I will session with. So much better than I remembered. An outstanding blend of quality taste and mouthfeel, yet still it's so crisp and refreshing. Lot's of great taste combined with refreshing qualities, makes for about a perfect summer beer.

Matt Brewing Company
The Matt Brewing Company was founded in 1888 by German-born immigrant Francis Xavier Matt, or F.X. as he liked to be called. After Prohibition, F.X., then 74, was joined by his sons Walter and Frank. Walter Matt, who served as company president until 1980, is credited with increasing sales and many building renovations, including the model brewhouse and Tour Center.

Today, under the leadership of the third and fourth generations of the Matt family, the brewery still crafts beer to the exacting standards set forth over a century ago.

True to their German brewing heritage, the Matt Brewery Company has earned its reputation as one of the country's most respected brewers of specialty beers. In each bottle of Saranac, you'll find a commitment to quality and patient attention to detail that is the signature of the Matt Brewing Company.
