Saranac Dry Hop Lager Brewed by the Matt Brewing Company Utica, NY

Saranac Dry Hop Lager Brewed by the Matt Brewing Company Utica, New York

Saranac Dry Hop Lager is brewed with North American and German malt using Perle, Mittlefruh and Saphir hops in the kettle. In aging, we dry hop with Opal, a new variety known for its citrus and herbal characteristics, and Taurus, a unique new variety with wonderful aromatic qualities. Lagers aren't typically dry hopped, but we wanted to showcase a lager blooming with hop flavor and aroma. You'll experience a medium body with subtle malt notes to round out this uniquely hopped brew.

Beer Review by Beer Advocate:
Appearance: Pours a crystal clear deep golden color with a very small amount of carbonation bubbles working their way to the top to support a one inch head of very fine bubbled off white colored head that lingers nicely, leaves pretty good lacing across the glass

Aroma: Very clean scent, mostly of fresh wheat, reminds me of a cereal that i used to have as a kid but i cant remember the name, possible slight earthiness in the finish but I may just be imagining that

Taste: Begins with a nice gentle toasty wheat note then moves into a really nice American pale ale like taste with a nice fresh hope note and bitterness, a very two-tier taste which is interesting and yet segmented

Mouthfeel: Gentle and yet fine carbonation tingle, smooth across the palate, slightly astringent leaves the mouth just a bit dry, really smooth as it should be

Overall: A really well balanced and yet diverse beer, I really love the hop bitterness and think it brings a really nice dimension to this brew. Quite happy with this offering from the folks at FX Matt.

Matt Brewing Company
The Matt Brewing Company was founded in 1888 by German-born immigrant Francis Xavier Matt, or F.X. as he liked to be called. After Prohibition, F.X., then 74, was joined by his sons Walter and Frank. Walter Matt, who served as company president until 1980, is credited with increasing sales and many building renovations, including the model brewhouse and Tour Center.

Today, under the leadership of the third and fourth generations of the Matt family, the brewery still crafts beer to the exacting standards set forth over a century ago.

True to their German brewing heritage, the Matt Brewery Company has earned its reputation as one of the country's most respected brewers of specialty beers. In each bottle of Saranac, you'll find a commitment to quality and patient attention to detail that is the signature of the Matt Brewing Company.
