Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale Brewed by the Matt Brewing - Utica, NY
Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale Brewed by the Matt Brewing Company Utica, New
York
Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale is a traidtional blonde ale with a kick of
juicy blueberry. You'll notice a light golden haze from wheat malt and oats
and a low hop bitterness, which really shows off the fruit. With a
medium-light body and fresh blueberry flavor, we're sure we've captured
refreshment in a bottle! Malt: 2 Row, wheat malt and oats. Hops: Saaz.
ABV:5.0%. IBUs: 18
Beer Review by Beer
Advocate:
Appearance: Pours a hazy light golden, clear color. Lots of little bubbles
rising up from the bottom. Relatively aggressive pour leads to a big 2 finger
head that sticks around and leaves sticky lacing all the way down the glass.
Aroma: Malty nose hits first, some hoppy bitter hits next, biscuity nose follows
next, followed by a nice little whiff of blueberry. It's not an incredible
smelling beer but it's definitely nice.
Taste: Follows the nose, good malt backbone, nice lingering hop bitterness and a
really nice little blueberry twist comes in and out of the taste on this.
Mouthfeel: Creamy feel, perfectly carbonated.
Overall: Really solid beer. Easy drinker, nice blueberry flavor. Can see myself
putting a bunch of these away on a hot summer day or during a camping trip.
F.X. Matt Going Green -
NBR Review
FX Matt Brewing, a New York-based family-owned brewery at the foothills of the
Adirondack Mountains in Utica, is all set to kick off its $4m brewery expansion.
The environmentally-friendly expansion will include installation of five 35ft
long anaerobic digester tanks from Philadelphia, which will break down waste
materials into methane and other gases for use in the production of electricity
and heat.
The brewery will use the reproduced energy created from new anaerobic digester
to clean 80-90% of the brewery's waste water. The energy produced will also be
useful for the Utica district and its Varick Street area.
FX Matt Brewing chairman and CEO Nick Matt told Your News Now that they use some
geothermal heating, they do a lot of recycling, they capture CO2 from the
fermentation and use it in the beers and they do a lot of things to try to be
green.
Matt Brewing Company
The Matt Brewing Company was founded in 1888 by German-born immigrant Francis
Xavier Matt, or F.X. as he liked to be called. After Prohibition, F.X., then 74,
was joined by his sons Walter and Frank. Walter Matt, who served as company
president until 1980, is credited with increasing sales and many building
renovations, including the model brewhouse and Tour Center.
Today, under the leadership of the third and fourth generations of the Matt
family, the brewery still crafts beer to the exacting standards set forth over a
century ago.
True to their German brewing heritage, the Matt Brewery Company has earned its
reputation as one of the country's most respected brewers of specialty beers. In
each bottle of Saranac, you'll find a commitment to quality and patient
attention to detail that is the signature of the Matt Brewing Company.
