Port Jeff Porter brewed in Port Jefferson, New York
While brewing its Porter, the brewers at Port Jeff wanted to keep it as
traditional as possible. The final product is something that a shipbuilder
would have enjoyed after a long, hard day in the yard. Dark in color, smooth
in flavor, and sweetened with local organic honey, this Porter will have you
dreaming of fair winds and following seas. Malts include Maris Otter, Black
Patent, Caramel, and Chocolate. Hops are Fuggles, Northdown. ABV: 6.5%. Took
the bronze medal at the 2012 U.S. Open Beer Championship.
Beer Review by Beer Advocate:
Appearance - The contents of the growler are as dark as the cap screwed on.
Opened the filled to the brim growler and filled my founders snifter. This beer
looked a pewter black in the glass with a thin porter bubbly head that fizzled
away as quick as it was poured. Standard fare for a porter.
Aroma - Very nice. Classic charred porter with great notes of chocolate and
vanilla. robust and roasty, but mostly charred.
Taste - Burnt chocolate, roasted malts and some dry bitterness. Really well done
porter.
Mouthfeel - Pretty full bodied...fizzy. Finishes dry and a tad bitter. A bit
excessive on the fizziness, even for a porter.
Overall - This is a solid porter. I'm very proud to have this beer produced
locally and look forward to exploring more brews from this local newcomer. No
wonder this one has been tough to get. d'oh...call me homer on this beer.

Brewmaster
Mike Philbrick is a Port Jefferson resident who homebrewed for almost a decade
prior to graduating from The World Brewing Academy at Siebel Institute in
Chicago. His passion for craft beer led him to bring Port Jefferson their own
brewery to showcase his recipes in the popular tourist town and beyond. When not
brewing Mike enjoys time with his wife, three children, and dog, Buddy, either
boating or going to the beach.
