Tidings Ale  from Port City Brewing Company

Bill Butcher, owner of Port City Brewing Company, located at 3950 Wheeler Avenue in Alexandria, VA is excited to announce the release of his special edition Tidings Ale just in time for the holiday season. Crafted by Head Brewer Jonathan Reeves, this strong Belgian style blond ale is made with local Maryland wildflower honey and Virginia wheat, and is gently spiced with coriander, cardamom, fresh ginger and grains of paradise. The limited production Tidings Ale is the second seasonal beer produced by Port City Brewing Company, and the first seasonal beer that will be available by the bottle. Tidings Ale is available in six-packs and on draft beginning December 1. The suggested retail price for the six pack is $11.99 and patrons can find it at the brewery’s Tasting Room, and on tap at select area restaurants and bars, as well as fine beer, wine and liquor retailers.

History of Port City Brewing Company
The historic port city of Alexandria, VA has a proud tradition of brewing beer for the region that dates back to the 19th century. Founded in 1866, the Robert Portner Brewing Company operated in Alexandria for almost 50 years. It grew to become the largest brewery in the southern United States, and was Alexandria’s largest employer. The company thrived until 1915, when Prohibition came to Virginia, and the brewery went out of business.

Port City Brewing Company is proud to revive, celebrate and continue this rich brewing history in our modern artisanal brewery right outside our nation’s capital. We started the brewery in January 2011 because we found that the DC area needed more choices for great quality, locally produced craft beer.
