Tröegs Perpetual IPA brewed by Tröegs Brewing - Hershey, Pennsylvania
In our constant evolution as a brewery, we’ve developed an undying drive to
meld the organic and the mechanical. Perpetual IPA utilizes our hopback and
dry-hopping to engineer a bold Imperial Pale Ale. Perpetual IPA is 7.5% ABV
and 85 IBUs. It features Bravo, Chinook and Mt. Hood hops in the boil, Mt.
Hood and Nugget hops in the hopback and Citra, Cascade and Nugget hops in
dry-hopping.
Beer Review by Beer Advocate:
Appearance: With a semi-vigorous pour, a large 4 finger khaki colored head is
created, semi long lasting. Creamy texture, lumpy on top with big bubbles
underneath. Small slow rising bubbles can be seen rising through the medium
light orange colored body. Respectable clarity. Fair to good lacing laying down
in random fashion.
Aroma: Very pungent. Massive dry hopping is evident. Fresh pine wood and resin
comes through on the nose. Green and leafy with the last pour bringing in a
little soapy character, coming across more as extreme freshness than anything
else. Even as the temperature increases, there is little-to-no caramel evident -
a huge plus in my mind for IPAs.
Taste: Traces of mango and pineapple with a peppery spice to set it off. Perfect
balance between sweet and dry. Even though I dislike the term, Tröegs Perpetual
IPA is very close to a West Coast-style IPA (think fresh Alesmith IPA).
Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is perfect with the exception of carbonation levels.
Fizzy but a little soft. Pour gently to maintain the effects of the bubbles.
Medium body with a sticky, yet mineral-like texture.
Overall: Perpetual IPA is my kind of beer. Finally Tröegs produces an IPA that I
can get down with. I was starting to get concerned after the multiple attempts
in the Scratch Series. Bottom line, I'm glad they landed on this for a seasonal
release even though I feel that Perpetual IPA is strong enough to be a part of
their year-round portfolio.
Tröegs Brewing Company
Tröegs Brewing Company was founded by Chris and John Trogner. Since 1997, the
brothers have been handcrafting world-class beers that combine traditional
English brewing techniques with the eclecticism of new American brewing. While
only available in the Mid-Atlantic region, Tröegs Brewery is known nationwide
for their award-winning Troegenator Double Bock, highly-desirable seasonal
releases like Nugget Nectar and The Mad Elf, and brewery-only beers like the
Scratch and Splinter series. Tröegs Brewery in Hershey, Pennsylvania provides
guests with a complete brewing experience. The brewhouse is located in a 5,000
square foot tasting room that opens onto a beer garden. Visitors are able to
