16 Mile Brewing Co. brews Night Stalkers’ Stout in support of our Troops

Night Stalkers’ Stout Brewed by 16 Mile Brewing in Georgetown, Delaware

16 Mile Brewery has expanded its line of bottled brews to include the Night Stalkers’ Spiced Imperial Stout, a beer infused with flavors not usually found locally. The Night Stalkers’ Spiced Imperial Stout was the original brain-child of Brett McCrea, one of the 16 Mile owners, and a member of the 160th Night Stalkers’ Special Operations Aviation Regiment. The 160th supports aviation needs of U.S Special Operations forces all over the world, and their mission at the Battle of Mogadishu inspired the movie Blackhawk Down. “The idea was to create a beer that honored the 160th by incorporating ingredients from around the world where they reside and operate,” said McCrea.

“The first ingredient, Lexington Bourbon, symbolizes Kentucky, the home base for the regiment. We soaked oak spires in a case of Lexington Bourbon and added this during the pre-fermentation stage to contribute to the body of the stout. Next, we wanted to add ingredients to represent the countries where they performed missions. We added green cardamom (a citrusy spice) and ginger during the boil and dry hopping stages to impart a subtle flavor and aroma. These spices are commonly used in foods from places like Somalia and Afghanistan. Finally, we added honey during the post fermentation stage. Honey farming has taken place in Iraq for thousands of years and it nicely rounds out the astringency of the black malts used in this imperial stout.”

The Night Stalker Stout addition comes only a few weeks after the brewery began to bottle its Russian Imperial Stout, Peters Deptford Retreat. “For years we have been offering our specialty brews in our tasting room to patrons. Peter’s Deptford Retreat received such incredible reviews that we simply couldn’t ignore the demand,” added Chad Campbell, co-owner.

Proceeds from the Night Stalker Stout sales will be donated to the Night Stalker Association, which is a non-profit war veteran’s organization that serves the families of fallen Night Stalkers.

16 Miles Brewing
Since 16 Mile opened in July of 2009, the award-winning brewery has focused on bottling its six core beers, including Blues’ Golden, Tiller Brown, and Amber Sun. The flavors and brand names of these drinkable session ales were inspired by the local history and culture. The brewery’s tasting room continues to boast 16 taps with the core beers as well seasonal and small batch beers that can only be found on site. “For customers to try beers that are only sold here in our tasting room is the best market research,” reported Dickinson, the Media and Events Director. “We enjoy providing our customers with something new every time they walk through our doors. It keeps them guessing and wanting more from us, which pushes us to be more innovative and imaginative in our brewing.”

16 Mile Brewing Co. is located on 413 South Bedford Street in Georgetown Delaware. The tasting room is open 7 days a week, and free tours are offered on Friday and Saturdays at 12, 1, 2, & 3 PM.
