Lips of Faith Series - Tart Lychee brewed by New Belgium Brewing

Lips of Faith Series Tart - Lychee brewed by New Belgium Brewing - Fort Collins, Colorado

New Belgium Brewing announced the next beer in its 2012 Lips of Faith series: Tart Lychee. Lips of Faith beers offer limited edition selections that showcase New Belgiumís more esoteric and palate-elevating creations.

New Belgiumís sweet and sour Tart Lychee highlights the unique lychee fruit, which is balanced alongside a wood-aged sour beer. Itís brewed with pale malt, caramel-80, carapils, malted wheat and oats, then spiced with lychee fruit and a touch of cinnamon. The hazy orange Tart Lychee begins with bold, tropical aromas and ends with a sharp, dry finish. Tart Lychee is available on draft and in 22-ounce bombers. Alcohol by volume is 7.5 percent.

New Belgium Tart Lychee

Beer Review by Beer Advocate
Appearance: The pour is a hazy straw color with some hints of orange and a very thin white head.

Aroma: The nose is quite tart with some noticeable fruit character, though I haven't smelled lychees often enough to positively identify their aroma. Some good green apple and lemon notes, along with a mild barnyard funk.

Taste: Lots of great lactic tartness and fruit flavors. Definitely some lychees, green apples, and lemons. The oak is there, mainly in a tannic and mildly funky form. Decent amount of brett funk and dryness.

Mouthfeel: A puckering tartness along with a dry finish, medium body, and moderate carbonation.

Drinkability: I've wanted to try this one for a long time now, and it lived up to my expectations. Great beer, nice balance, and complexity.
