Coconut Porter is a classic robust porter spiced with all natural
toasted coconut. It is black in color and crowned with a creamy,
dark tan head. It begins with a malty-toasted-coconut aroma followed
by a rich, silky mouthfeel with tastes of dark malt, chocolate, and
hints of coffee. It then finishes with flavors of toasted coconut
and hoppy spice to balance the finish.

Appearance: Canned carbonation is always something that blew my
mind, it poured 3 fingered being nice and tan. The head goes down
slowly and beautifully. This porter is completely black and it even
fills its corners with blackness. Carries a nice slow lacing.
Aromo: A nice chocolate and coffee with wood (might be a slight
alcohol though) comes through. Definitely not weak, but damn it
smells nice.
Taste: A chocolate presence definitely comes throughout. The
woodlike presence comes out smoky toasty. I feel like if they say
this a coconut taste then the taste is the body of the coconut
roasted adding a smokiness to this beer. The obvious coffee also
comes through.
Mouthfeel: This comes amazingly creamy with an almost full body and
the carbonation comes through moderately. This creaminess comes
through as it was a Milk Stout and damn that's from a porter.
Overall: This definitely feels like a porter and damn does it taste
great. On the can its advertised that this won Gold in 2006 as a
Herb and Spice Beer and I could see how it did this. I admit I truly
can't taste the coconut, but damn does this beer taste great. I am
such a sucker for porters and this is obviously another one that I
have fallen in love with.
Maui Brewing Company
Maui Brewing craft brews are the only authentic Hawaiian beer
currently available on the mainland as 100% of the beers are brewed
and canned in Hawaii. With a strong commitment to the local economy,
and deep concern for the environment, MBC microbrews are packaged
with the most ecologically-friendly materials. Although cans and
bottles are both recyclable, bottles still break and may pose a risk
at beaches. The cans are manufactured on Oahu and designed by local
Maui artists and have the added bonus of protecting the beer in the
best possible manner - from both light and oxygen damage which can
seriously compromise the taste. Plastic rings are dangerous to
marine life and therefore, a unique, recyclable plastic carrying
device is used to hold the cans. The spent grain from beer
production is donated to local ranchers for cattle feed; and any
cans damaged in production are donated to the Maui Humane Society.
MBC purchased equipment from Maui Land & Pineapple, preserving a
piece of Hawaii's canning history.
Founder Garrett Marrero and his wife, Melanie, run a 7-barrel
brewpub at the Kahana location as well as the 25-barrel full
production brewery and canning facility in Lahaina. Maui Brewing Co.
is a truly local beer as 100% of their products are made in Hawaii
as opposed to other "Hawaiian" beers. Contact Garrett W. Marrero g@mauibrewingco.com
