Love Child No. 2 brewed by Boulevard Brewing - Kansas City, Missouri
Love Child No. 2 uses
complex strains of yeast that allowed some of the beer to age gracefully during
a four-year period in bourbon barrels. Then, it’s blended with beer aged in
stainless steel containers. The resulting flavor has sour characteristics, with
notes of cherry, oak, olive brine and leather. The beer will continue to change
as it ages. ABV: 9.6%

Appearance: A hard pour yields half an inch of tan head which very quickly
dissipates, leaving no lacing. Dark amber color that is cloudy with sporadic
bubbles coming to the top.
Smell: Very tart-- La Folie-ish. I'm trying hard and don't get anything other
than tart. As a sour beer drinker, this smells fantastic.
Taste: Not nearly as tart as the smell, and the oaky bourbon is very present up
front (in a good way). The taste is actually a bit underwhelming considering the
intense tart nose. A few drinks later and the tartness builds and lingers. The
finish is a bit dry, and leaves you wanting to drink a bunch more. This really
grows on me as I drink it.
Mouthfeel: A bit more thin than expected, quite astringent. The carbonation is
very nice on the tongue.
Overall: I had this beer a year ago at the Parkville Microbrew fest, and
remember it being great. There is no brett funk at all right now, so I can't
wait to see how it develops over time.
