Lagunitas Maximus IPA brewed by Lagunitas Brewing - Petaluma, CA

Lagunitas Maximus IPA brewed by Lagunitas Brewing - Petaluma, California

At the height of the heat in the heart of the summer, the brewers at Lagunitas felt that the only cure was a raging mouthful of fresh hops and malt. Caution: May remove enamel from teeth. This is Lagunitas IPA pumped up by about 30%!The beer is 7.5% ABV and has about 72 IBU’s.

Beer Review from Beer Advocate
Appearance: Dark gold/copper color with a very thin, off-white head that drops quickly and completely, leaving no lace.

Aroma: Tropical fruit and citrus, very sharp, smells awesome

Taste: Fruity (lots of citrus) sweetness but not cloying at all. Very sharp bitterness in a good way. On the back of the tongue it almost seems like a candy apple (not sweet, just flavors).

Mouthfeel: Very crisp for the style, almost dry. A combination of oily hops and some astringency makes this no where near sweet.

Overall: An awesome example of the style, it avoids the DIPA/barleywine issue. A massive hopbomb that is very easy to drink, I have no problem reaching for a second or third. Highly recommended, a truly kickass beer.

Story of Lagunitas Brewing
From our earliest days of striving to make consistently good beer, and instead making beer that ranged from vile, to barely drinkable, to wonderful, to elegant, to questionable-at-best. From being castigated by our West Marin neighbors to finally suffering an 'eviction' by our West Marin septic system. From landing in the welcoming arms of Petaluma, and actually getting our beer into bottles, onto the streets, and into the hands of sympathatic beer geeks, to steadily losing less money each month. From all this and more, Lagunitas Brewing Company is emerging as a battle-tested brewery capable of making great beer out of goat's milk, brambles, and asphalt on the surface of the Moon, if need be.

As the poet once said, 'Where, but for the grace of God and the kindness of strangers, go I'. Where go we indeed, whatever that means.

The Lagunitas Brewing Company was founded in 1993 in Lagunitas, California, USA. They are known for iconoclastic interpretations of traditional beer styles, and irreverent descriptive text and stories on their packaging. Lagunitas Brewing's flagship, IPA, is consistently the best-selling IPA in the state of California according to IRI, the widely cited consumer product reporting company.
