Lagunitas Cappucino Stout brewed by Lagunitas Brewing in Petaluma, CA

Lagunitas Cappucino Stout brewed by Lagunitas Brewing in Petaluma, California

Lagunitas gets some help from their friends and neighbors at Sebastopol’s Hardcore Coffee just up the road. The coffee beans are freshly ground when we drop them into the brew kettle and whirlpool, giving that deep coffee flavor without taking away from that even deeper beer flavor. This stout is rewed with boatloads of roasted coffee in each batch for that extra Krunk… this Mondo Coffee Stout will leave you wondering whether you're coming or going. Available in 22oz bombers. ABV: 9.2%. IBU: 29.5

Beer Review by Beer Advocate
Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch black color with a small tan colored head. The head fades quite quickly leaving a good level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Aroma – Coffee and chocolate mixed with a good caramel sweetness are the heaviest and the majority of the aroma on this one. Mixed with these smalls however are some other aromas of a light vanilla, some smells of an oaky nature as well as a light boozy smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a big dose of creamy and smooth chocolate and coffee. Some sweeter flavors of vanilla and caramel are present upfront and are soon met with some flavors of a more milky and creamy nature bringing a more milk chocolate mocha flavor to the brew. Soon a little bit of bitterness enters the taste as some more roasted malt and coffee flavors come to the tongue. Other more bitter flavors of an earthy hop taste come to the tongue more toward the end of the taste. This mixed with a more oaky taste ends up leaving a roasty cappuccino taste to the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is big and robust with a nice thick creaminess which matched the nice dark roasted malt and sweeter cappuccino flavor of the brew very well. This mixed with the lighter carbonation make for a fantastic sipper.

Overall – Quite delicious. A big sweet coffee/cappuccino stout with a nice smooth flavor profile and feel. Give it a chance if you can.

Lagunitas Brewing History
The brewery was founded in 1993 by Tony Magee in Lagunitas, California and moved a year later to nearby Petaluma, California when they quickly outgrew their original rural West Marin location. Lagunitas has been one of the fastest-growing craft breweries in the United States, increasing from 27,000 barrels in 2004 to 106,000 barrels in 2010. As of March 2011, the company has 92 employees and sells its beer in 32 states. The brewery announced a $9.5 million expansion slated to begin early 2012 which will increase its brewing capacity to 600,000 barrels. On April 9th, 2012, Lagunitas announced plans for a new Chicago based brewery equipped with a 250 barrel brew house which will also have a 600,000 barrel capacity. The brew house is to be completed by July 2013 with the first mash in slated for Q4 2013.
