Hop Manna IPA brewed by Shmaltz Brewing - Saratoga Springs, New York
The tribe at
He'Brew went to the mountain top and came back with a recipe for the
brewery's first ever single IPA, Hop Manna. This bright, refreshing beer is loaded with
floral and citrus notes - and enough satisfying IBUs to quench the desires
of devout hop heads. Malts: 2-Row Specialty, Wheat, Munich, Vienna,
CaraMunich 40. Hops: Warrior, Cascade, Citra, Amarillo, Crystal, Centennial.
ABV: 6.8%. IBU's: 65
Beer Review by Beer Advocate
Appearance: Pours a deep and clear golden copper orange with a moderate amount
of bubbles. About two fingers of white head which slowly fade into a thin layer.
Decent amount of lacing on the glass.
Aroma: A decent mix of hops up front. Hints of citrus grapefruit, orange peel,
mango, and apricot. Also a little hint of dank pine resin. Solid presence of
malts with hints of caramel, toffee, and biscuit. A nice smelling citrusy and
well balanced IPA.
Taste: Nice bitter kick up front with a good amount of ripe citrus fruit flavor.
Notes of grapefruit, oranges, mango, and a hint of apricot and lime. Light hints
of piney hops. A good amount of bready malts add some balancing sweetness with
notes of biscuit, caramel, and some toffee. A very good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Creamy, juicy,
and nicely prickly on the tongue. Has a pretty drying finish.
Overall: A very good American IPA. Good ripe citrus fruits and nicely balanced
by the caramel. Actually one of the better new IPA's I've had in a while. This
is comparable to Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery's great Masla Mama IPA.
