Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale brewed by Cigar City Brewing

Cigar City's Good Gourd Ale brewed by Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Florida

Legend has it that when a pumpkin comes into the world it is possessed by either a good or an evil spirit. Cigar City's Good Gourd Ale got all the good baby! Bursting with real pumpkin flavor and yummy pumpkin spices including Ceylon cinnamon, Jamaican all-spice, Zanzibar cloves and nutmeg, Good Gourd is a celebration of Fall and that spookiest of holidays, Halloween. Pair Good Gourd with pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie and costume parties. ABV: 9.4%. IBUs: 35

Review from Beer Advocate

Appearance – Dark brown, mostly opaque but some ruby highlights where light passes through. Nice clarity. Firm, thick foam head, tan-white, an inch or so tall and it goes nowhere. Impressive nitro pour.

Aroma – Just a slight hint of fall/pie spice. More of a sweet character from the use of actual pumpkin. Minor bitter hops on the nose.

Taste – Very strong harvest / fall / pumpkin flavor, melded well with a sweet malt backbone and perhaps some spicy yeast notes.

Mouthfeel – Creamy, foamy texture, very smooth from the effect of the nitro dispense. Mild sweetness, a touch of bitterness, all in harmony.

Overall – Of all the harvest/pumpkin beers, this is one of the best (if not THE best) I’ve had. The creaminess from the nitro puts it over the top.

About Cigar City Brewing:
“In a state known for theme parks, Cigar City Brewing has become a major attraction for those who appreciate and seek out excellent beer. It opened with a flourish and spread its reach quickly, appealing to both hardened beer geeks and brew novices with eyebrow-raising flavors and commitment to quality. Capitalizing on the Latin culture and tobacco-manufacturing history of Tampa Bay, Cigar City highlights those strengths on its labels and in its beer names and recipes. Many of the beers it produces – Jai Alai IPA, Improv Oatmeal Rye India-Style Brown Ale, Cubano-Style Espresso Brown Ale – reflect the sensibilities and ingredients of Florida. One of Cigar City Brewing’s most sought after beers is a special release called Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout. The 11 percent ale is aged on cacao nibs, Madagascar vanilla beans, ancho chiles, pasilla chiles, and cinnamon.”
