Original Ale,
Boxcar’s flagship beer, was created to keep our craft-drinking friends happy
and persuade our non-craft drinking friends to experience crafts. This
unfiltered, moderately hopped, light-bodied transitional ale has a mild malt
taste and a hint of citrus. Two different types of unroasted base malts and
whole leaf cluster hops are dry hopped with whole leaf cascade hops to
provide a rich flavor to this very pale ale. The bottle-conditioned brew has
a clean and satisfying finish with an alcohol by volume of 5%.
Beer Review from Beer Advocate:
Appearance- Bottle poured into a pint, two finger bright white creamy head that
fades sloly to a half inch layer of head that doesn't budge til i take my last
sip. hazy deep golden coloring with active carbonation. this is one attractive
brew.
Aroma- clean, lemon, maybe a hint of green apple tartness, floral notes, and
lots of mystery fruit esters.
Taste - Nice balance of smooth pale caramel malt and lightly bitter hops,
slightly grassy, very floral and fruity with a crisp, clean, slightly dry
finish. this is very kolsch like in it's flavoring. the bottle conditioning here
is a nice and pleasant touch.
Mouthfeel- Medium body but fills the mouth very well.
Overall - This is a really nice, easy drinking apa that i'll be drinking again.
also, you've gotta love an up and coming brewery from my hometown of west
chester! i had the opportunity to meet the owner/brewer who was a great, very
knowledgable guy!
Boxcar Brewing Company
Boxcar Brewing Company, based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, was founded in
2008 by cousins, Jason Kohser and Jamie Robinson. Jason, formerly a winemaker in
Sonoma California, discovered his passion for brewing beer and sharing it with
friends and family while living and working in California. While enjoying
Jason's homebrews one afternoon, Jaime--a lover of brews of all kinds--posed the
question of formally brewing beer. When the time was right, Jason decided to
move to Pennsylvania and together with Jaime, the dream of opening a brewery was
born. Today, Boxcar Brewing Company is owned and operated by Chester County
residents Jason and Jamie and their wives, Kristen and Kymberly respectively.
"It was important to us to open the brewery in Chester County, especially West
Chester. My wife and I have spent so much of our lives in the area and we think
that it is such a great place for family, community and small business." Adds
