Bootlegger’s Brewery
Story
Bootlegger’s Brewery began as the brainchild of experienced homebrewer and beer
lover Aaron Barkenhagen. Aaron developed the business concept and wrote the
business plan while enrolled in the Entrepreneurship program at California State
University of Fullerton. The brewery as envisioned would be a small artisian
brewery supplying the local community and beyond with fresh unique handcrafted
beer.
With the support of family and friends, Aaron continued to lead the development
and build out of Bootlegger's Brewery in Fullerton, CA. It took almost a full
year of contruction, licensing, and buildout to complete the small brewery on
Richman Ave. The resulting brewery was a humble 7 barrel brewhouse with 3
fermenters and plenty of space to grow into.
After over 2 years of planning and build out, Fullerton’s first packaging
microbrewery opened its doors and delivered its first keg of beer in April 2008.
While we continue to expand our distribution, add production capacity, and
enhance our technology at the brewery, we stay true to our original plan; To
build a local artisian brewery supported by local businesses and consumers and
making the highest quality and most unique beer possible.
Bootlegger’s Beer
Palomino Pale Ale: American Style Pale Ale
Palomino Pale Ale is our interpretation of an American style Pale Ale. We brew
this beer using only the finest American barley and hops and add even more hops
as it ages to give it a great balanced citrusy taste and aroma. This beer is
sure to please anyone who enjoys the refreshing taste of American hops.
Golden Chaos: Belgian Style Golden Ale
Named after its golden color and effervescence, the complex yet smooth taste of
Golden Chaos lives up to its name! Golden Chaos is a Belgian style Golden Ale
made from fresh imported German and English hops and brewed using the finest
American rock candy, giving this fine ale a fruity aroma and taste that leads to
a pleasingly dry finish. The subtle notes of plum, apricot, and pear achieve a
perfect balance of fruitiness and spiciness.
Amber: German Alt Beer
Our Amber is a Northern German Altbier style ale. Medium in body, its unique
sweet toasty malt character and notes of caramel flavor create a remarkably easy
to drink yet complex flavor. The mild sweetness transitions into a clean and
slightly dry finish leaving you longing for more. The perfect session beer for
any occasion!
Rustic Rye IPA: Rye IPA
Our latest addition to our year-round lineup. For you hop heads out there, you
have to try this! This American style IPA made with rye grain tops the charts at
over 85 IBU (that’s a lot of bitter!). It’s starts with floral hop notes a big
malty body hinting at the underlying rye grain and finishes with a nice clean
bitterness.
Old World Hefeweizen: Bavarian Hefeweizen
Our German-style hefeweizen is an unfiltered wheat beer that is handcrafted
using only pure imported Hallertauer German hops grown in the Hallertau region
of Germany to give it an original old world taste! With its white moussy long
lasting head, golden color, subtle aroma of bananas, and light hoppy taste, our
hefe gives a crisp refreshing taste with a nice balanced finish to make this a
perfect everyday beer for everyone to enjoy!
