Tournament of IPAs - Sweetwater IPA Wins
(March 26) - At a recent blind tasting, a group of IPA lovers judged a Sweet 16 of American IPAs —- eight from east and west of the Mississippi. We enjoyed them all. But we managed to sniff, sip and argue our way to a final four. Our comments on the beers are below. And then we picked a winner —- Sweetwater IPA, from right here in Atlanta —- a beer we found super fresh with a bold hop presence.

Baltimore Beer Week takes shape(March 26) - The organizers of Baltimore Beer Week, a 10-day October festival celebrating all things beery, have unveiled the event's logo, featuring an image of the Washington Monument in downtown Baltimore. MECA Student Designs Label for Geary's Summer Ale(March 26) - Each year, the D.L. Geary Brewing company partners with Maine College of Art on a contest for students to design the label for the Geary’s Summer Ale. EU court upholds trade mark ruling against AB Inbev(March 26) - A European Union court on Wednesday upheld a ruling denying Anheuser-Busch the right to register the Budweiser name as a trade mark in the EU. U.S. brewer Anheuser-Busch, bought by Belgian counterpart Inbev last year, applied for an EU trade mark in 1996 for the name "Budweiser" for its "beer, ale, porter, malted alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages". Utah legalizes home beer making(March 26) - In an economy where doing it yourself has its rewards, Utah legislators have legalized beer making at home.   Now it's official, Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. signed HB 51 yesterday, Mar. 24th, meaning that as of May 12th, 2009 Utah's homebrewers can legally brew beer at home! The search for IPA authenticity sends BrewDog, a Scottish brewer to sea (March 24) - A Scottish brewery claims to have produced the first authentic India pale ale (IPA) in almost 200 years by aging the beer aboard a trawler in the North Sea. BrewDog, a Scottish micro-brewery based in Fraserburgh, has used an original recipe to produce the ale. Complete Story

Long Islanders make beer at home for fun and profit(March 14) - Craig Belson, 27, of Valley Stream, proudly took a sip of the spiced brown ale he brewed back in November as he steeped a muslin bag in a stock pot that sat on two burners.
