BEER GUIDE
Current as of 30-Nov-1997
Let's assume you’re the type of person who goes out and searches for the best bargain, selection, or brand of something you need. Say you're looking for a used bicycle for your 6 year old, so you pick up a bargain shopper-type publication to look for a good deal, or you drive that extra ten minutes to the "Shoe Warehouse" store at "TowneNorth Mall" because the six year olds' older brother says they have a "killer choice" of Aire Jordaché hi-top something-ball shoes with 40-watt neon shoestrings, dual airbags, and anti-skid Lexanite-infused grip soles with implanted 75-meganobite directional memory chips (included with the "optional" installation purchase plan)!
So now that you've achieved shopping nirvana and are viewed as a god or goddess of material goods acquisition by the neighborhood children, relatives and the general public at large, you're now ready to sit back and relax with a couple of cold ones. However, the fridge is sorely lacking choices of some "real man's" brews. All that's left are a couple of those "Less of What You Don't Want" and "King of Brews" aluminum cauldrons, neither of which you are in the mood for. What you've really been interested in is trying some of those micro-brewed or specialty brands you've seen or heard about lately. However, you're not quite sure about shelling out 6 or 8 greenbacks for a sixer you have no idea what's going to taste like.
Well there is a little publication put together by two local Atlanta area residents that is available to assist you in locating one or more of those special "adult beverages." It's simply called BEER GUIDE. It's for use by the "casual" drinker of beer who is interested in slowly and systematically expanding their beer drinkin/tasting palette beyond the common mass produced and highly promoted beer brands. It is not a manual for brewing your own, but a resource that will allow you to investigate some of the more "heartier" brews that are retail available in you local area from a much more knowledgeable perspective. Come check out out website.

WHAT'S BREWING
Current as of 10-Dec-95
Dear Editors and Publishers:
Do your readers know that Irish-style stout is a traditional beer to drink with oysters and other fresh seafood? Do they know there are new brews predicted to age like fine wines? Or that some beers today are flavored with blueberries, cinnamon or even chili peppers? If they do - or if they don't but still like to drink beer - those readers just might be interested in a weekly column I write for the Record-Journal, a 30,000 daily and Sunday in Meriden, Conn., where I am also the business editor. The column is called WHAT'S BREWING, and it's aimed directly at those young, affluent, "at-risk" readers who have circulation directors crying in their beers. Launched in April 1994, the 800-word column focuses on the renaissance that has increased the number of breweries in this country tenfold over the past 15 years, and led an estimated 1.5 million people to become amateur brewers. WHAT'S BREWING is crafted for a wide audience. Tens of millions enjoy drinking beer, whether it's Miller Lite, Pabst Blue Ribbon or the thousands of new brands and styles that have entered the marketplace in the past two decades. Their response to the column shows they enjoy reading about it as well. Newspapers that have noticed the trend have published features on the new interest in beer, but haven't made them a weekly offering. Editor & Publisher's 1995 Syndicate Directory lists 18 columns on wine, but just one on beer: WHAT'S BREWING. This is your invitation to give it a try.The rates are not prohibitive, as the New York Times Syndicate always says; downright cheap, in fact, given the interest WHAT'S BREWING will generate. So call, write or E-mail for clips and more information, and you can get started pleasing your many beer-loving readers right away.
